Robbert Wouters, Assistant Professor

Robbert Wouters is an Assistant Professor and co-leads the research within the Hand-Wrist Study Group. He has a clinical background as a hand therapist and holds an MSc in Clinical Health Sciences from Utrecht University.

His PhD research focused on outcome measurement and treatment for thumb base osteoarthritis. He has led the THumb osteoarthritis Exercise TriAl (THETA), which was funded by ZonMW. Robbert was a Research Fellow at the International Consortium for Health Outcome Measurement (ICHOM) in 2018, working on the development of the ICHOM Standard Set for Hand and Wrist conditions.

In 2021, he obtained the prestigious Veni grant for his project entitled: "Predicting individualized clinically relevant outcomes: a new method for decision support using routine outcome measurements." He obtained an Erasmus MC Fellowship in 2024,  which is on utilizing the Patient-Specific Needs Evaluation (PSN) for data-supported and individualized treatment. He also leads several other projects on personalized medicine, clinical decision-making, and data-driven healthcare.
