Recent Hand Wrist Study Group findings have highlighted the impact of mental health on the initial presentation and treatment success in various hand and wrist conditions (1,2).
Within Xpert Clinics, mental health is screened using the Ultra Short Mental Health Screening Tool, available on the clinicians' dashboard. This tool is recently introduced based on research from the Hand Wrist Study Group (3).
An example is De Quervain’s disease (#DQ), where patients with more negative illness perceptions and higher levels of pain catastrophizing tend to have poorer treatment outcomes (1,2). The Ultra Short Mental Health Screening Tool can serve as a conversation starter, an expectation management tool, or a decision support tool.
By incorporating mental health into clinical care, we strive to improve both patient satisfaction and treatment outcomes. It’s rewarding to see our research directly influencing daily clinical practice!
Hand Wrist Study Group is a collaboration between Xpert Clinics and Erasmus MC.
