Joost Colaris, Orthopedic surgeon

Joost Colaris completed his doctoral degree in Medicine at the University of Leuven and graduated cum laude at the University of Leiden in 2003. In 2010 he became an orthopedic surgeon at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. From 2012 he was trained in hand and wrist surgery at the department of Plastic Surgery and in 2014 he passed the FESSH examination (Federation of European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) with a best diploma award.


In 2014 Joost successfully defended his thesis 'Forearm fractures in children'. He won the Dr. G.J. Heijmans price, the NVOT award, the Biomet price, and the Dutch trauma award. Thereby the Dr. G.J. van Hoytema foundation chose his thesis as topic for their congress. 


Joost is actively involved in research of forearm-, wrist- and hand-pathology and received grants of more than 1.5 million euro as main applicant or co-applicant. 


He actively participates in the faculty of several courses (AO foundation, OTC foundation, Esser Masterclass, Dutch arthroscopy course). Furthermore, he is one of the founders of the annually BIG hand event.
