Caroline Hundepool 

Dr. Caroline Hundepool (1989) studied medicine at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. During her studies, she started a Research Master in Clinical Epidemiology at the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (NIHES). She started her PhD project on peripheral nerve surgery at the Plastic Surgery department (promotor: prof. dr. S.E.R. Hovius, co-promotor: Dr. T.H.J. Nijhuis). During this, she did a one-year research fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota in the United States of America at the microvascular research laboratory of prof. dr. A.T. Bishop and prof. dr. A.Y. Shin. This resulted in a PhD-thesis in 2016: The road to optimized nerve reconstruction (download here). In 2018, she started the residency program at the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery at the Erasmus MC.

 

Specific interests: peripheral nerve injury, compression neuropathies, neuropathic pain.
