Niek Nieuwdorp, PhD-student

NN.jpeg

My name is Niek Nieuwdorp, and I’m a PhD Student at the department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Hand Surgery at the Erasmus MC. During my bachelor’s degree in medicine, I engaged in the Honours Class, sparking my interest in research. During my third year I participated in the minor ‘Reconstruction from head to hands’ which got me interested in hand surgery, causing me to join research at the department. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I started a PhD trajectory while doing a master's in clinical epidemiology.

For the upcoming years, I will be conducting research on non-traumatic hand-wrist instability, with a focus on thumb carpometacarpal instability. The aim of the research is to gain more insights into the outcomes of surgical and non-surgical treatment for this condition.
